Lawn Aeration
Lawn Aeration in Fishers
What Is Core Aeration and Why Is It Important?
Lawn aeration is the process of removing 2-4 inch plugs out of your lawn. By performing aeration, you will allow the soil in your lawn to breathe and the grass roots to receive enough water and fertilizer. At Johnson Lawn Services, we use mechanical aerators to provide aeration to homeowners in Fishers, IN, and the surrounding area. In particular, lawns with clay or partially clay soil can benefit from aeration.
When Should I Aerate?
We recommend that you aerate your lawn annually. The best times to aerate a lawn are in the spring or fall because your lawn is the least stressed during this time. After aeration is complete, we recommend over-seeding to allow your lawn to thicken and eliminate bare spots.
What Can I Expect from Aeration?
After aeration is completed, you will have three inch plugs of soil on your lawn. Don’t worry! These soil plugs will disappear within 2 weeks. It is important to let the plugs take care of themselves because they contain fertilizer and other nutrients that need to make their way back into the soil.
Can’t I Aerate My Lawn Myself?
Aerators can be rented from $65 to $100 a day. However, professional aeration is relatively inexpensive. Before you decide to rent an aerator, we recommend that you research the pros and cons of doing aeration yourself.
